It was checkers or wreckers for Chase Delrio Saturday night at Greenville Speedway. He was running second on the final lap and drove into turn four, riding the wall, as he slid under the leader and beat him to the finish line in a photo finish to collect the $2,000 top prize in the Rumble on the Gumbo All-Star Modified Series race.

gustin10000mar25Ryan Gustin captured his second King of America crown Saturday night at Humboldt (KS) Speedway. Starting outside of the front row in the 70-lap main event, Gustin led the way for the first eight laps. "The Reaper" kept the leader in sight as he reeled him back in through lapped traffic and regained the top spot on lap 29. He led the rest of the way to collect the $10,000 top prize. “They don’t get no better than a Hughes car, that’s for sure,” Gustin said of his No. 19r Hughes Racing Chassis. “They are the best there is, and I can’t thank Jason (Hughes), Steve (Karver, crew chief) and all the guys back at the shop enough. They’re the ones that make this thing happen.” Buck Monson Photo

hughes3000feb17Jason Hughes inherited the lead on the fourteenth lap and led the rest of the way Friday night at Shady Oaks Speedway as he took his second checkered flag of the season worth $3,000. “It was a lot of luck tonight,” said Hughes. “The way the track was you had to start up front to get qualified. We were just trying to keep our cars clean and not wreck. It's an educated guess as to what you try at a track. Once you think you know it all, then you're in trouble. You do what you think the car needs and hopefully hit it.” Ryan Gustin followed Hughes in second giving MRE the top two. Carey Akin Photo

thornton2000feb16Starting outside of the second row Thursday night at Shady Oaks Speedway, Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, AZ wasted little time getting to the front as he made it three wide entering the first turn on the opening lap to take the lead and stayed out front the entire 30-lap distance as he scored the $2,000 victory. “I can’t thank Ed Gressel enough for giving me this opportunity. It’s pretty cool to get our first real USMTS victory,” Thornton said. MRE took the top two as Stormy Scott finished second. Carey Akin Photo

hughes3000feb10Two-time defending USMTS national champion Jason Hughes of Watts, OK started 16th Friday night at Cotton Bowl Speedway and worked his way up to third when a caution flew with 20 laps complete. On the restart, Hughes powered to the lead and led the rest of the way to score his first win of the season, worth $3,000. “It’s a lot of work,” Hughes said of his night. “You start out in the back of a heat race and can’t pass, then you got to work your way up through a “B” but we had a really good race car. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year doing this with Ryan (Gustin), and hopefully we can keep going like we are.” Fellow MRE pilot Stormy Scott was second. Carey Akin Photo

gustin2000feb9Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, IA jumped to the lead from his outside front row starting spot and led all 40 laps to pick up the $2,000 top prize in the USMTS season opener Thursday night at Cotton Bowl Speedway. “This thing was good,” Gustin said in victory lane. “We’d take off there and be decent, and then try and back it down so I didn’t hit the concrete.” This was Gustin's first win of the season behind the wheel of a Jason Hughes Racing team car. Carey Akin Photo
